DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIPS BY AMBITION FOCUS CHESS ACADEMY

Every great journey begins with a single move.

For Ambition Focus Chess Academy (AFCA), that defining first move was the successful

organization of the U-11 District Chess Championship – 2020, conducted on 11th & 12th January

2020 in Salem.

This historic event marked the official beginning of AFCA’s mission to promote structured,

disciplined, and competitive chess at the grassroots level.

The Inaugural Tournament

Organized in association with Rainbow Rook Chess Club and under the aegis of the Salem District

Chess Association, the championship brought together 70 talented young players from across

Salem district.

• 42 Boys and 28 Girls competed

• 7-Round Swiss System tournament

• Conducted as per FIDE Laws of Chess

• 20 prizes awarded (Top 10 in each category)

• Certificates for all participants

The event was hosted at Jothi Chandaran Vidyaalayam Matriculation School, Salem, and was

appreciated for its professional organization and disciplined conduct.

U-11 Boys Champion: Mithiran A (7/7 – Perfect Score)

U-11 Girls Champion: Sanjana S (6.5/7)

Their remarkable performances set the tone for excellence and competitive spirit that AFCA

continues to uphold.

The tournament was conducted as part of the Salem District Chess Championship (Selection) in the prestigious Golden Jubilee Year celebration of Salem District Chess Association – marking 50 Years of Excellence.

This championship served as the official selection event for identifying talented Under-7 players from Salem District for higher-level competitions.

• Under 7 Open (Boys): 26 Players 
• Under 7 Girls: 14 Players 
• Total Participants: 40 Players 

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from young chess aspirants across Salem district, reflecting strong grassroots development.

• Tournament conducted exclusively for Salem District players 
• Latest FIDE Rules were followed 
• Age Eligibility: Under 7 – Born on or after 01.01.2018 
• Salem District Player Registration – Mandatory 
• Certificates awarded to all participants 
• Prizes: Top 10 Boys & Top 10 Girls 

Rounds commenced sharply at 9:30 AM, ensuring professional tournament standards and discipline.

• Entry Fee: ₹50/- only 
• District Registration: ₹50/- (Compulsory) 

The minimal entry fee ensured accessibility and encouraged wide participation among young players.
